In various Peruvian cities, the LGTBIQ+ Pride March was held on Saturday, bringing together a large number of people who belong to this community, as well as support the recognition and visibility of their rights.
In the case of the Peruvian capital, Lima, the event began after 4:00 p.m. (local time).
From De la Peruanidad Avenue and Campo de Marte Park, a large number of people and also allegorically-decorated vehicles began a tour along the city’s downtown streets.
It would end several hours later before a large stage set up on 28 de Julio Avenue.
After travelling along Guzman Blanco Avenue, the marchers reached Plaza Bolognesi (Bolognesi Roundabout), a place that cannot be accessed these days due to a municipal provision.
Thus, following the previously-set route, they continued the tour along Paseo Colon to reach Garcilaso de la Vega Avenue.
Upon reaching the intersection of this road with Zepita Street, marchers turned around to head —along the same street— to 28 de Julio Avenue, where the musical celebration continued, including speeches by citizens from various backgrounds.
Art and speeches
The color of the LGTBIQ+ community was unveiled during the march with costumes and banners holding vindicatory slogans, some of them referring to Peru’s sociopolitical situation.
In addition, traditional and modern dance groups participated actively in this event.
Among those participants in the march were Congresswomen Susel Paredes, Ruth Luque, and Flor Pablo, as well as Nuevo Peru (New Peru party) leader Veronika Mendoza and former Prime Minister Mirtha Vasquez.
The Ministry of Health also participated in this event, providing preventive information and vaccines against various diseases to those who wanted access to them.
Similar events were held in Cusco, Ucayali, Tumbes, Arequipa, and Madre de Dios regions.
