Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) Chairman Guido Flores participated in the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VII) held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
MINEPS has been convened by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It was organized by the Azerbaijan Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“This forum facilitates the exchange of technical and intellectual knowledge in the field of physical education and sport. Besides, it is an institutional mechanism for a coherent international strategy in this area,” the IPD said in a press release.
Moreover, this is the only global platform of its kind that brings together governments, intergovernmental organizations, the sports movement, academics, and specialized non-governmental organizations.
Sports cooperation
At the event, the head of the IPD met with Azerbaijan Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov and expressed his interest in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of sports cooperation.
According to Flores, the Government of Azerbaijan is interested in promoting exchanges in the sports it excels at, such as gymnastics, futsal, and weightlifting.
Likewise, Peru is interested in disciplines, such as surfing, karate, and squash.
Furthermore, he said there is a possibility of conducting training sessions and providing Peruvian athletes with the opportunity to travel to Azerbaijan so as to train at high-performance centers before competitions that may take place in Asia and Europe.
